- A Brief Introduction
- Hello, my name is Laurie (short for Laurence) Thomson. My academic background is Geology, though my whole career has been on the commercial / business side of mining. I have worked for a senior Japanese trading company, two major mining companies (Placer Dome Inc (now Barrick Gold) and BHP Minerals (now BHP Billiton)) and consulted to a number of juniors. I would not presume to call myself an expert in any sense of the word. I do, however, have extensive experience (more than 30 years) in the mining industry and am happy to share my knowledge and observations with you.
